Barbara Moniot

Barb began her artistic journey studying painting in a small studio in
San Francisco, California, where she discovered her passion for creating art. Already inspired by the natural world, she found painting to be the perfect way to translate the beauty she observed into expressive visual form.
She later continued her training at Lake Tahoe, taking classes in watercolor and acrylic that expanded her technical foundation and strengthened her creative voice.

Today, Barb works primarily in oils, drawn to their expressive texture and the fluid, unhurried nature of the medium. She loves the way oil paints move beneath her tools, especially the palette knife, which allows her to layer and sculpt the colors. Through this technique, she creates dynamic surfaces, adds dimension, and brings a sense of movement to each piece. The tactile experience of pushing and pulling paint across the canvas is an essential part of her process, echoing the rhythms of the natural landscapes that inspire her.

Nature remains at the heart of her work. Its shifting light, intricate textures, and quiet emotional nuances shape the tone and energy of her paintings. Whether capturing the serenity of Lake Tahoe’s shores or the bold colors of a cool, fall day, Barb aims to evoke the feeling of being surrounded by nature.

Alongside her work in oils, she also enjoys painting with acrylics and watercolors, appreciating the gentle, delicate quality these mediums offer through traditional brushwork and lighter applications of paint. Each medium provides a different way to explore creativity while staying grounded in her lifelong appreciation for the outdoors.
