Gary D. Sanchez

Gary D. Sanchez is a Reno/Tahoe–based multidisciplinary artist working in oil, watercolor, pastel, ink, digital media, sculpture, and photography. He holds a degree in art from the College of Eastern Utah and has built a career that bridges fine art and professional design. Since first exhibiting in San Francisco in the 1980s, Sanchez has developed a practice that balances plein air painting, imaginative surrealism, experimental mixed media, and contemporary photographic work.

In addition to his gallery and museum practice, Sanchez is an accomplished illustrator and game designer at International Game Technology (IGT), where he has created numerous award-winning titles, earned multiple patents, and contributed to several industry-recognized “Game of the Year” designs. His creative work has also been featured in art publications and magazines.

Sanchez’s artwork explores themes of memory, mythology, and landscape, weaving narrative imagery across media. He has received multiple awards, including the People’s Choice Award at the Wilbur D. May Museum and recognition for oil painting at the Carson City Gallery in 2025. An active member of regional art associations, he continues to exhibit widely and develop new projects.
