Cindy Pauline Whitaker
This northern California native makes rugged, rural Nevada her home. Her love for photography has evolved over the years. Through the lens, a single moment is captured: the untouched land whispers about its forgotten past as simply as it encourages us to protect it for the future. ART found amidst adventure. A snapshot from a 16-hour branding. A transparent rose petal. A herd of wild horses. A cougar’s pose. Photography, fine art, that represents my home. My heart. Images that represent a
transition and its journey without fear.

Cindy routinely shows new work at the NAA Gallery and shared the Featured Artist Wall with fellow photographer Fred Howland in 2018. Most recent accomplishments include participation in the 2019 – 2020 Nevada Arts Council’s new Basin to Range Exchange Project, inclusion in Sacramento’s Crocker Art Museum’s 2019 Big Names Small Art fundraiser, and two 2019 winning photographs with Portland’s Black Box Gallery. She participated the past two years in Reno is Artown’s Made in Nevada Marketplace with her photo artscarves. During the Historic Fort Churchill photo contest, an image of the fort cemetery won in 2018 and an image of A Very Buckland Station Christmas won in 2019. The Pacific Crest Trail Association chose 2 photographs taken from the trail as contest winners in 2018. The Nevada Magazine has published five photographs during the past 2 years and Cindy was a presenter at the magazine’s FOCUS group held in 2018. The local Community Living Magazine currently publishes her photographs (and stories) in each issue. She had two poems published in 2019; a Ranch Hand Rodeo poem in the March Community Living Magazine and a heartfelt piece about her father in the 24 Hour Poetry Marathon 2019 Anthology.

Retired, after nearly 25 years with Humboldt County School District, Cindy continues to give back to her community by volunteering. In 2019, she participated in several art projects that included the Humboldt Museum, Humboldt County students, Gerlach K-12 students in Washoe County School District, Winnemucca Dementia Friendly respite group and two fall community events. Cindy also enjoys spending time with friends and family, hiking with her black lab Olive, scouting for new photo opps, and creating new textile and art projects in her studio. Cindy’s photo artscarves are created on soft cotton, silky chiffon, or sweet pea gauze. Original designs are in the works for an Artown 2020 series, a Christmas 2020 series and a 2021 vintage collection. Her business plan includes select (retail) storefronts beginning in June 2021.
