Helen Coleman’s artwork reflects her experiences and observations of the natural world. Her work focuses on the changing light, textures, rhythm, movement, and emotive forms observed in nature. She carries her sketchbook while backpacking, kayaking, skiing, and hiking in the wilderness.
Helen works in oil paint, pastels, pencil, colored pencil, and mixed media. Born to British parents in Montreal, Canada, Helen has been drawing and painting since she was a child. Helen studied drawing and painting with the late Julius Hatofsky at the San Francisco Art Institute where she earned her Master of Fine Arts degree. She also studied art education at the Massachusetts College of Art. She has taught art at the high school and college levels, where she encouraged and inspired thousands of students.
Helen’s work has been exhibited in San Francisco, Mendocino, Boston, and Wellfleet (Cape Cod.) Helen resides in Carson City.
